24 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the Hunter, with 15 of those cases infectious while in the community.
The cases are spread across the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens and Tamworth local government areas.
By suburb the cases are from Shortland 3, Newcastle East 2, Elermore Vale 1, Wallsend 1, Bar Beach 1, Waratah 1, Birmingham Gardens 1, Carrington 1, Morisset 1, Edgeworth 2, Arcadia Vale 1, Toronto 1, Dora Creek 1, Rutherford 1, East Maitland 1, Thornton 1, Tanilba Bay 2 and Tamworth 1.
In a positive sign, the statewide COVID case numbers continue to fall with 935 cases recorded to 8pm on Sunday night. It's the first time since August 27 that the case numbers have dipped below 1000. The states case numbers have been falling each day since September 16.
On Sunday, NSW Health said it was too early to declare the peak of the outbreak had been hit, but said it was pleasing to see the numbers continuing to fall.
A number of COVID exposure sites have been listed overnight including at Glendale, Toronto, Salt Ash and Hamilton.
Anyone who attended the following venues at the specified dates and times is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

- Wednesday 15 September between 4:30pm - 8:30pm
- Thursday 16 September between 4:30pm - 8:30pm
