BY JARROD MELMETH

The Hunter has recorded seven new local COVID-19 cases to 8pm on Saturday night.

Concerningly, all seven cases were infectious in the community.

The new cases were recorded in Hamilton (1), Mayfield (1), Wallsend (1), Balcolyn (1), Fishing Point (1), Soldiers Point (1) and Booral (1). The new cases brings the regions total to 292 since August 5.

A new COVID testing facility has opened at Hamilton South due to two residents of the housing complexes testing positive to the virus overnight.

Sewerage surveillance has detected traces of the virus at the Dungog and Karuah Wastewater Treatment Plants.

Statewide, NSW recorded 1262 cases and a further seven deaths.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says 78 per cent of the eligible adult population has had at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. She says its pleasing as first doses dictate second doses.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced the federal government has secured another one million Moderna COVID vaccines from the European Union. These doses are expected to arrive later this week and will go through standard clearing procedures with the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Across the nation, more than two in three people have had at least one dose of a COVID vaccine.
