Premier to ditch daily COVID-19 press conferences as state records record day

The Hunters COVID-19 case numbers are remaining stubbornly high with 13 recorded today, bringing the regions total to 275 cases since August 5.

The new cases were recorded across Port Stephens, Singleton and Lake Macquarie.

Broken down by suburb the cases are in Anna Bay (1), Fingal Bay (2), Fern Bay (1), Heatherbrae (1), Nelson Bay (1), Shoal Bay (1 ), Soldiers Point (1), Wyee Point (3), Murrays Beach (1) and Singleton (1).

Seven of the new cases were infectious in the community including in Fern Bay, Nelson Bay, Soldiers Point, Wyee Point and Singleton. The cases in Murrays Beach and Anna Bay are currently under investigation.

Health authorities say there are currently 135 active cases, 485 close contacts in isolation and 10 people in hospital in the Hunter region.

Statewide, NSW recorded 1542 cases of COVID and a further nine deaths.

The NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced that from Monday the 11am press conferences will be replaced by NSW Health video updates. She says herself and the Health Minister will hold updates on a needs basis.

A number of exposure sites have been listed by Hunter New England Health including at Shoal Bay, Mayfield East, Morisset, Speers Point, Cardiff, Morisset, Wallsend, Taylors Beach, Kurri Kurri, Morisset and Cooks Hill.

Anyone who attended the following venues at the specified dates and times is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

  • Coles, Mayfield East on Saturday 4 September between 11:55am - 12:40pm
  • Cold Rock Mobile Van, Morisset parked on Dora Street on Friday 3 September between 3:30pm - 7:30pm
  • Cold Rock Mobile Van, Speers Point parked at Speers Point Park on Sunday 5 September between 11am - 4pm
  • New Nero Espresso Bay, Cardiff on Friday 3 September between 7:20am - 7:30am
  • Bunnings, Morisset on Wednesday 1 September between 10:05am - 10:15am
  • Bunnings, Wallsend on Sunday 5 September between 9:05am - 9:30am
  • Bunnings, Taylors Beach on Monday 6 September between 4pm - 4:20pm
  • Coles. Kurri Kurri on Monday 6 September between 6pm - 6:30pm
  • Coles, Morisset on Friday 3 September between 12pm - 12:30pm
