Hunter to remain in lockdown due to stubborn COVID-19 case numbers

12 new cases have been detected in the Hunter to 8pm on Wednesday night.

The new cases are spread across four of the Hunter's local government areas. Broken down by suburb the new local cases are in Nelson Bay (4), Adamstown Heights (2), North Lambton (1), Kotara (1), Catherine Hill Bay (1), Dora Creek (1), Woodrising (1) and Heddon Greta (1).

Concerningly, nine of the 12 new cases were infectious in the community, including in Nelson Bay, North Lambton, Kotara, Dora Creek, Woodrising and Heddon Greta.

State wide, NSW recorded 1405 new cases, with five more deaths.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced the Hunter will remain in lockdown due to the stubborn case numbers the region has had.

Hunter residents who need to isolate after receiving a COVID-19 test are now eligible for the state governments $320 test and isolate support payment. This is payable to anyone over the age of 17, who needs to isolate after a test, who would loose work during the period of self isolation. The payment is not available to those who can work from home, receive any income or have access to sick leave while in isolation. 

Hunter New England Health has put out a call for residents of Muswellbrook to come forward for testing after an individual was highly infectious at the time of visiting two venues

Anyone who attended the following venues at the specified dates and times is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

    • Friday 3 September between 3:45pm - 3:55pm
    • Saturday 4 September between 3:50pm - 3:55pm
    • Saturday 4 September between 4:20pm - 4:25pm
  • Darby Kebab & Pide, Cooks Hill on Tuesday 31 August between 10:10pm - 10:30pm
  • Thornton News & Post on Monday 30 August between 3:10pm - 3:15pm & 3:25pm - 3:45pm
  • Prince of Wales Tavern (Bottleshop), Muswellbrook on Thursday 2 September between 6:25pm - 6:30pm
  • TSG (Southside Newsagency), Muswellbook on Friday 3 September between 11:10am - 11:20am
  • Woolworths, Nelson Bay on Saturday 4 September between 4pm - 10pm
  • Coles, Salamander Bay on Saturday 28 August between 4:40pm - 5pm
  • Subway, Cameron Park on Wednesday 1 September between 10:20am - 10:30am
