The Hunters COVID-19 case numbers have spiked, recording 27 today.
The new cases are spread across Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Maitland, Cessnock and Port Stephens.
Broken down by suburb the new cases are from Charlestown 2, Mount Hutton 2, Cardiff South 1, Windale 1, Fishing Point 1, Wyee Point 1, Mayfield 5, Hamilton South 1, Elermore Vale 1, Tenambit 6, Beresfield 1, Cessnock 1, Cliftleigh 1, Shoal Bay 1 and Fingal Bay 1.
12 of the new cases were infectious in the community, while three remain under investigation. Thirteen are linked to two separate clusters in Mayfield/Charlestown and Tenambit.
Hunter New England Health says there are currently 12 cases being cared for in hospital, while 555 close contacts are in isolation.
Statewide, NSW has recorded 1259 new local cases and a further 12 deaths.
NSW Premier Gladys Berjiklian says 80 per cent of the eligible population over 16 years of age have had one dose of a COVID vaccine.
A number of COVID exposure sites have been listed overnight including at Toronto, Merewether, Wangi Wangi, Warners Bay, Hamilton South, Newcastle West, Taylors Beach, Newcastle & Heatherbrae.
Anyone who attended the following venues at the specified dates and times is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

- Coles Express Petrol Station, Merewether on Friday 10 September between 8pm - 9pm
- IGA, Wangi Wangi on Friday 10 September between 1:30pm - 1:45pm
- Office Works, Warners Bay on Wednesday 8 September between 4:30pm - 5pm
- Diggers Bottle Shop, Hamilton South on Friday 10 September between 1:40pm - 1:45pm
- Newcastle Central Plaza, Newcastle West between Wednesday 8 September 6:45pm - Thursday 9 September 10:50am
- PETQuarters, Taylors Beach on Sunday 12 September between 10:20am - 10:45am
- Newcastle Courthouse on Friday 10 September between 9:30am - 12pm
- 7-Eleven, Heatherbrae on Wednesday 8 September between 10pm - 10:05pm
