A number of hazard reduction burns are taking place across the Lower Hunter this weekend, and residents are being urged to take appropriate precautions.
On Friday, a ten hectare burn will be conducted off Mount baker Road at Mount View, Cessnock.
On Saturday, burns will be taking place at:
- 40 hectares at Gan Gan Army Camp off Nelson Bay Road and Gan Gan Road, Nelson Bay
- 24 hectares at Clarence Town behind the quarry and properties
- 19 hectares at Neath off Maitland Road behind the pistol club and concrete plant.
The Lower Hunter Rural Fire Service is reminding residents in these areas to keep windows and doors closed, remove washing from clothes lines and ensure pets are in a protected area.
