There are currently 888 active cases across the district. 18 of these are in hospital with the virus, including three in intensive care.

Man in 70's becomes latest Hunter COVID-19 fatality, as the region records 57 new cases

A man his has died in Maitland overnight with COVID-19. 

The man in his 70s, was being cared for in Maitland Hospital, was fully vaccinated and had significant underlying health issues.

The fatality comes as Hunter New England records 57 new local cases.

There are currently 833 active cases across the region, of which 19 are being cared for in hospital, including two in intensive care.

3,770 cases have been recorded across the local health district since August 5.

Draft Plans Released for Munibung Hill

Lake Macquarie's Munibung Hill's 10 year draft plan has been released for possible community accessibility and future resources. 

Lake Macquarie City Council is set to use this plan as a draft for future management in order to successfully capitalise on the precinct by both keeping with community interest while seeking tourists to the area. 

The 130ha plan combines suburbs of Macquarie Hills, Boolaroo, Speers Point, Warners Bay and Lakelands. 

Some of the proposed changes are within the limitations of upholding the environmental and cultural values of the site while enhancing the use of the hill. 

Manager of Community Assets at Lake Macquarie Council Brendan Callander said he is confident in maintain the sites untouched beauty while being able to add things such as; off-road parking, picnic tables, signage and toilets, all of which are lacking from the much-loved site. 

“Anyone who has made the climb to the top would agree this is one of the Hunter Region’s best-kept secrets. The views of the lake, the Watagans and across the city’s suburbs are incredible.”

Out of the 15 key objectives outlined over the next 10 ears include; 

•  Making walking tracks safe and stable.
• Protecting Aboriginal cultural values and ecological communities.
• Restricting vehicle access to essential services and emergency vehicles. 
• Ensure activities provide public benefits, not private benefits. 
• Increasing the number of people visiting the area. 

Lake Macquarie Council are seeking feedback on the plan which will be on public exhibition until December 20 2021. 

An in-person information session will also be taking place at the Council's Speers Point administration building on November 24 from 5.20pm-6.30pm and November 30 from 1-2pm.

103 COVID-19 cases recorded across the local health district, as authorities raise concerns about Moree gatherings

The Hunter New England Health district has recorded 103 new COVID-19 cases.

A large chunk of the new infections are from the Moree Plains, MidCoast and Port Stephens local government areas.

Health authorities have issued close contact alerts for two events in Moree last week, which they hold concerns about.

Across the district there are 904 active cases, of which 14 are in hospital, including four in intensive care.

Hunter New England Health have announced the death of  Hunter man from Tuesday's reporting period. The man in his 60s died in the John Hunter Hospital, was partially vaccinated and had underlying health conditions. His death was announced by NSW Health on Tuesday.

Hunter Water's Rated Highly in State of the Beaches Report

Hunter residents can be confident heading into summer, following the release of the 2020-21 State of the Beaches report. 

The report was released by the NSW Government on Sunday and provides an overview of the water quality at 210 swimming locations monitored under the Beachwatch and Beachwatch partnership programs across the state. 

This year’s report saw one hundred per cent of beaches in the Hunter region graded as either “Good” or “Very Good”, indicating a four per cent improvement on last year’s results. 

The grade systems provide an assessment of the suitability of each swimming location for recreational purposes and are based on a combination of sanitary inspections and microbial assessments. 

The “Very Good” rating is reserved for locations with excellent water quality and limited signs of pollution. Water in these locations is considered suitable for swimming almost all of the time. Ocean beaches rated as “Good” have generally good water quality but should be avoided for up to one day following heavy rainfall. 

Environment Minister Matt Kean was pleased to see such good results across the state, with 179 of 210 locations in NSW given the top two grades. 

“This is a good result given the wet weather conditions experienced in many coastal areas, including the wettest summer in NSW since 2012,” Mr Kean said. 

“As we head into the summer swimming season, I encourage everyone to not only Slip, Slop, Slap and swim between the flags, but to be COVID-safe on our beaches this summer.”

It's another day of high COVID-19 case numbers for the Hunter with 79 announced on Thursday.

The Hunter New England Health District is the states largest source of COVID infections. In second is South Western Sydney with 51 new cases.

There are currently 838 active cases across the region, down from 1,010 on Wednesday. 21 of the active cases are being cared for in hospital, including four in intensive care.

Of Thursday's cases, 41 were infectious in the community, while 51 are linked to existing cases.

Health authorities say they're seeing  transmission occurring in indoor settings such as gyms and households, including in fully vaccinated people.

Emergency services free person from vehicle at Lake Macquarie

A person has been freed from a vehicle overnight at Lake Macquarie.

Emergency services, including police, RFS and ambulance, were called to Silverwater Road, Silverwater just before 7pm, where they found a vehicle had collided with a tree and the occupant was still trapped inside.

Fire and Rescue NSW extricated the occupant who was then transferred into the care of paramedics.

Superintendent Scott Dodson says this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed.

Almost one-third of states daily COVID-19 cases in the Hunter

83 new cases of COVID-19 have been announced for the Hunter today, making up almost one-third of the states cases.

There are currently 1,010 active cases across the region, of which 23 are in hospital, including five in intensive care.

Dr Marianne Gale from NSW Health says Raymond Terrace, Kurri Kurri, Cessnock Carrington and Mayfield are all among the suburbs with the highest case numbers in the state.

2,811 cases of COVID have been recorded since August 5.

49 new COVID-19 cases in the Hunter, as health authorities call out Kurri Kurri

49 new local COVID019 cases have been recorded across the Hunter, bringing the regions total since August 5 to 2,729.

There are currently 940 active cases across the region, of which 24 are in hospital, including six in intensive care.

Of Tuesday's 49 cases, 32 were infectious in the community, while 28 are linked to existing cases.

Dr Jeremy McAnulty from NSW Health is calling on residents in the Kurri Kurri area to come forward for testing due to a rise in cases.

59 new COVID-19 cases in the Hunter, as the virus makes its way to Moree

59 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded across the Hunter New England Health district.

The virus has made its way across the local health district, from Lake Macquarie, to the Mid-Coast and all the way over to Moree.

Of Monday's fresh cases, 40 were infectious in the community, while 46 are linked to existing cases.

There are currently 924 active cases across the region, of which 27 are in hospital, including six in intensive care.

2,680 cases of COVID have been detected in the Hunter since August 5.
