Hunter COVID cases spike as the Premier warns not to let guard down

18 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the Hunter, sending the regions total up to 310 cases since August 5.

The new cases are spread across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland and Cessnock.

Broken down by suburb, the cases are in Mayfield (2), Mayfield West (2), Elermore Vale (1), Hamilton South (1), Arcadia Vale (2), Balcolyn (1), Blackalls Park (1), Boolaroo (1), Salamander Bay (1), Nelson Bay (1), Anna Bay (1), Soldiers Point (1), Tenambit (1) Greta (1) and Weston (1).

Eight of the new cases were infectious while in the community, eight remain under investigation, while just two were isolating while infectious.

Statewide, NSW recorded 1257 new local COVID cases and a further seven deaths.

A number of COVID exposure sites have been listed overnight including at Toronto, Stroud, Hamilton, Rathmines, Wangi Wangi, Wallsend, Boolaroo, Swansea and Cardiff.

Anyone who attended the following venues at the specified dates and times is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

  • Woolworths, Swansea on Tuesday 7 September between 6:55pm - 7:35pm
  • Woolworths, Cardiff on Tuesday 7 September between 9:15pm - 9:50pm
  • Oasis Village Kebab Shop, Hamilton on Friday 10 September between 7:05pm - 7:25pm
  • Rathmines Post Office on Thursday 9 September between 11:45am - 11:50pm
  • IGA Plus Liquor, Wangi Wangi on Wednesday 8 September between 1:40pm - 1:50pm
  • Wallsend Post Office on Thursday 7 September between 4:40pm - 4:45pm
  • Costco Wholesale Membership Hut & Petrol Station, Boolaroo on Thursday 7 September between 10:20am - 10:35am
  • Friendly Grocer, Stroud on Sunday 5 September between 3:15pm - 3:25pm
  • DKS Butchery, Toronto on Thursday 9 September between 10:05am - 10:10am
