Accused Petrol Thief Arrested at Hexham

BY LAUREN FREEMANTLE

A man has been arrested near the Hexham Bridge after being wanted on several offences in Queensland and NSW.

Police say they attempted to stop the silver Ford Falcon at Nambucca Heads following several fail to pay incidents at petrol stations along the M1 Motorway.

The driver failed to stop and led police on several high-speed pursuits travelling south.

Around 11:30 last night, Newcastle Police coordinated a traffic stop at Hexham, with officers having to forcibly enter the vehicle to speak to the man.

The 30-year-old from Bundaberg and his 15-year-old female passenger were taken to Raymond Terrace police station - the teenager was released without charge, while the man will face court today on multiple charges.
