16 'Newcastles' Converge in Japan

BY JARROD MELMETH

University of Newcastle student, Irini Kassas is en route to Japan today to represent the city for the 20th-anniversary conference of the Newcastles of the World Alliance.

Delegates from 16 places called Newcastle around the globe will meet in Shinshiro City, Japan to discuss business development, tourism, cultural collaborations, youth councils, charitable support, and sporting links.

Shinshiro City was the first Newcastle to hold the conference in 1998 and has since been held in Newcastles in Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, South Africa, and The United Kingdom.

Ms Kassas said she and trip sponsor Out of the Square Media have been in contact with former Lord Mayors and City Councillors of Newcastle Australia to discuss what the conference can achieve for our city.

"In fact, we are hoping to bring the conference to Newcastle NSW in 2024," she said.
