A 29-year-old man arrested at Maitland over the death of Wollongong woman, Kristie Powell has now been charged with her murder.
It's understood detectives from the Port Stephens - Hunter Police District received a tip-off about Bhanu Kirkman, who's wanted for several alleged offences including fraud, resisting an officer, drug possession and having custody of a knife in a public place.
Kirkman was arrested under a railway bridge at Maitland at about 4pm yesterday.
He's been refused bail to face Maitland Local Court today.
Police allege he killed 39-year-old Kirstie Powell in her Bellambi home last Friday.
The mother of one had previously raised concerns about being stalked by a man.
