The first ever Thank You for Working in Age Care Day is being celebrated across the Hunter today.
The day aims to shine the light on quality services being provided in the region, in the wake of recent instances of poor resident treatment at facilities nationwide.
Manager of the Health Services Union, Rob Shay, says it is about time aged care workers get the recognition they deserve.
"For many many years, aged care workers have been a bit out of sight, out of mind, [and] haven't had a lot of recognition for the important work they do. So today is the start of hopefully building a stronger recognition."
It comes on the same day Prime Minister Scott Morrison unveils a $106 million package to pay for greater training and spot-checks at care facilities.
