Royal Life Saving New South Wales' Keep Watch at Public Pools program is coming to Cessnock Swimming Pool. It is hoped to bring parents' attention to the significance of having continuous supervision on children under the age of 10.
Regional Manager Tanya Brunckhorst is calling for parents to recognise
lifeguards are not babysitters. “They are there to certainly watch the pool,
and make sure everyone’s safe but we do require parental supervision."
October will mark the beginning of this safety awareness program, under the
initiative children under 5 will be given yellow wristbands to make them
more visible in the water. For children aged 6 to 10 it is recommended parents
be "watching them, not on their phones" ready at any time to enter
the water.
