Hunter residents who shop at Woolworths are being urged to check their fresh fruit, after an urgent recall of certain strawberries.
Sewing needles have been found inside Berrylicious and Berry Obsession brand strawberries sold in NSW, Queensland and Victorian stores.
The advice is to cut the fruit in half first to check if there's anything inside; or better yet throw them out.
The produce is grown at a farm in Queensland's south-east, where it's believed a disgruntled ex-employee may have contaminated the stock.
Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young says they quickly realised it wasn't an isolated case.
"On Sunday, a person came forward who had swallowed a strawberry that was contaminated, so there was that one case and the investigation started," she explained, "then last night we were told of two further incidents in Victoria."
If you've purchased the brand of strawberries in question, you can return them for a full refund.
