The Port Stephens community has been given less than a week to consider the Council's revised Nelson Bay Town Centre and Foreshore Strategy, with the proposals tabled for decision at a Council meeting on 25th September.
Tomaree Rate Payers and Residents Association's President Geoff Washington says the papers will only be available to Councillors a week before the meeting and publicly available a few days beforehand.
Considering the significance of the issue, and high level of public interest, the TRRA says it is completely unacceptable for the community to have under a week to digest and form a view on the lengthy and complex documents, with Councillors themselves needing more than a week to review the proposal and consult with the community.
The Strategy draft released earlier this year proposed a more than doubling of height limits to allow ten storey buildings throughout the town centre, despite the opposition to major height increases in the 2017 round of consultations.
"TRRA calls on Council to defer formal consideration of the revised Nelson Bay Strategy to allow for a longer period for public consideration and reaction before any final decision is made" said Geoff Washington.
