$8-million-dollars has been invested in John Hunter Hospital for lifesaving cardiac and vascular equipment to enhance the hospital's ability to diagnose and treat coronary artery disease and heart disease.
Chief Executive Michael Dirienzo says the equipment, now in operation, is expected to meet cardiac and vascular needs for at least the next decade, ensuring the hospital can keep pace with technological advancements and medical developments.
"The new equipment allows the hospital to review more complex cases, which in turn is likely to reduce the need for surgical intervention," said Mr DiRienzo.
The new equipment includes major x-ray, cardiac monitoring, catheter ultrasound, haemodynamic, pacemaking and cardiac ablation replacements with electrical upgrades for the three cardiac catheterisation laboratories and vascular angiography laboratory.
