Four University of Newcastle students are set to represent Newcastle Law School at a competition in Melbourne.
The Kirby Contract Moot will see teams engage in a mock-lawsuit between a fictional mining company and Indigenous people’s corporation.
The legal minds will be up against 26 others and are vying for a spot in the quarter finals, with the grand final winner to be decided by well-known former High Court Justice Michael Kirby.
Law student Charlotte Walker said there's been a huge lead up to the event.
"I would low-ball it and say each of my team members have been doing 10 hours a week at a bare minimum," she said, "so there's been a lot of effort so far..."
Ms Walker believes competition entry will help put Newcastle Law School in the national spotlight.
"The University of Newcastle has a good history at this competition, not necessarily for winning it but there are awards you can get within the competition for best written submission, best presenter and things like that.
"Newcastle's won the best written submissions with other teams in the past, so it's definitely good to get us on the map."
The third-year student will be joined by peers Courtney Parnell, Hannah Williams and Kate Falkenmire on September 24 through 27.
