New Music Orientated Learning in Muswellbrook

BY LAURA D'AMICO

Muswellbrook Shire Council has established an independent primary school to open in partnership with Music Director Richard Gill.

The independent K to 6 primary school will focus on music and physical education as key elements of its syllabus.

Council has announced that the Muswellbrook Richard Gill National Music Academy will be located in place of the town's current administration centre, and is scheduled to open in 2020.

School chair Kim Williams says the school's curriculum is outstanding to lead the way for future students, promoting the city as a centre for innovative education.

"Every kid will start the day with music and physical activity, other schools don't do that," Mr Williams said.

"This will be a remarkable place, to have a town that is so committed to looking to the future, putting music and physical activity at the centre of daily education life is a thrilling prospect.

"Music liberates more of the way kids use their minds," Mr Williams continued, "Music is fundamental to the way kids are trained to love learning and have good lateral approaches to all of the disciplines in education.

"Creativity is the crucible of really interesting outcomes for all children. I think this will be something that is held up across Australia as really being an exempla of a new-fashioned approach to education," he concluded.
