Hunter's koala population in danger after Salt Ash fire

Our region's koalas are in desperate need of care.

Fears for their safety and survival follow Sunday's bush fire at Salt Ash, which many predict could be the worst disaster for the Hunter's koala population in more than a decade.

Though the damage is expected to be quite severe, volunteers are hoping to save at least half a dozen of the endangered marsupials when search and rescue efforts get underway tomorrow.

The Hunter community is also encouraged to look out for the any koalas in the area and to contact the National Animals Trust Fund should they require assistance or advice.
