Fire bans are in place in 15 regions today, including the Central Coast, Illawarra, Blue Mountains and Sydney, for what is set to be one of the hottest October days on record.
Temperatures ranging up to 39 degrees with high winds and low humidity will combine to create extreme fire conditions.
Hunter residents are advised to be aware of heat stroke conditions; including body temperature, hot dry skin with no sweating and nausea or vomiting.
Young children and the elderly are especially at risk of heat stroke and are being urged to inside and drink lots of water.
