Hospital to lose more beds

Muswellbrook District Hospital is gearing up for an upgrade to its emergency department today, with its remaining 9 aged-care residents set to relocate.

Labelled by some as a poor compromise, the residents will be forced to spend the next few years in the busy first-floor medical ward.

Their ground-floor unit is needed for the emergency department expansion, with early works to begin next month.

The State Government is spending $4 million on the ambitious project, along with a $2.5 million donation by mining company, BHP Billiton.
