Newcastle shipbuilder Forgacs is considering entering into partnership with the Navy to turn their Brisbane dock into a naval repair centre.
The dry dock closed recently as it was no longer commercially viable, despite being one of only two dry docks in the country.
Talk of selling the dock has been dismissed less than 12 months
after Forgac sold the floating dock located in Newcastle Port which was then moved to the Republic of Namibia.
The company says the Brisbane dock has the potential to become a valuable asset to Navy operations but should not replace the Navy's current Garden Island facility.
