The question of who should pay for the dredging of the Swansea Channel has arisen again with the release of a state-funded report.
The report recommends the state government pay the full $2 million cost, and suggests sharing the $360,000 cost of channel maintenance between the state government, Lake Macquarie council and channel users through increased boating registration and mooring fees.
Swansea MP Garry Edwards said the state government would welcome contributions from stakeholders.
"The state government recognises the importance of keeping the channel navigable, but if we can get some contributions from other stakeholders, other users that would be fantastic," he said.
Council will discuss the issue at a meeting tonight.
