47 new COVID-19 cases in the Hunter

BY JARROD MELMETH

The Hunter has recorded 47 new local COVID-19 cases, bringing the regions total to 1815 since August 5.

The new cases are spread across the Maitland, Lake Macquarie, Cessnock, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Mid-Coast and Tamworth local government areas.

It's important to note that lower case numbers don't necessarily mean low infection rates. Hunter New England Health does not release the testing numbers which may be quiet low, indicating less ability to detect and trace the virus in the community.

18 of the new cases were infectious in the community while 31 are linked to existing cases. 23 of the total active cases are being cared for in hospital, including four in ICU.
