BREAKING! Man And Teen Suffer Burns In Unit Fire At Cessnock

 BY IAN CROUCH

A man and a teenage boy have suffered burns in house fire at Cessnock overnight.

Newcastle Fire Command says crews from Bellbird and Cessnock were called to Department of Housing units in Hunter Avenue at about 10.30pm on Tuesday to find a lounge on fire on the front lawn.

The fire was quick extinguished, while the unit sustained minor smoke damage.

It appears the lounge caught fire inside one of the units and a 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy carried the burning furniture outside to stop the fire spreading to the unit.

The man suffered partial thickness burns to his hands and the teen minor burns to his hands.

Paramedics treated the pair before transporting them to hospital in a stable condition.
