Teen Charged Over Mayfield Hit and Run

A teenager has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in Mayfield.

A 79-year-old man was walking along a nature strip on Villiers Street around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, when police say a Holden Nova allegedly being driven by a 17-year-old boy collided with the man.

It's alleged the driver left the scene without rendering assistance.

The teenager has been charged with five offences including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and will face a Children's Court today.

The elderly man remains in a serious condition at the John Hunter Hospital, his injuries are not life-threatening.
