A truck driver has been taken to hospital after his vehicle overturned at Jesmond.
Police say it appears the truck was heading west through the roundabout on Newcastle Road at about 1.15am on Wednesday when its load of steel shifted, causing the truck to topple onto its side near Blue Gum Road.
The driver suffered a minor head injury in the crash and has been taken to the John Hunter Hospital for observation.
RMS and council crews have transferred the load to another truck and a crane is on the way to lift the overturned truck back onto its wheels.
The crash closed 2 of 3 westbound lanes on Newcastle Road.
The RMS says it's unlikely the scene will be cleared until about 8.00am on Wednesday.
