Renewable Energy Push In The Hunter Gathers Pace

BY IAN CROUCH

The push towards renewable energy in the Hunter is gathering pace, with two projects being proposed in the Upper Hunter.

Fairfax reports renewable energy company, Epuron is completing a feasibility study into a 250-megawatt wind farm at Bowmans Creek, east of Muswellbrook featuring up to 80 turbines.

The project is likely to cost $550 million.

A 25-megawatt solar farm is also being proposed on the site of the former Drayton Colliery.

It's reported the two projects would provide power to more than 100-thousand homes once operational and would contribute to offsetting for the loss of the Liddell Power Station which is due to close in 2022.
