Hunter House Fires Prompt Warning From Firefighters

BY IAN CROUCH

The occupants of a house at Muswellbrook have escaped unharmed after a fire broke out last night.

Firefighters from Muswellbrook and Aberdeen arrived at the Chenin Close home to find a fire in the kitchen.

They took 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze and ventilate the house.

Newcastle Fire Command says a pot of oil left unattended on the stove caused the fire which left the kitchen badly damaged.

Meanwhile crews were also called to a unit complex on Main Road at Edgeworth at about 7.30 where food cooking on a barbeque on a balcony caught alight.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

It's prompted a warning from firefighters not to leave cooking food unattended.
