Caravan Explodes In Suspicious Fire At Windale

BY IAN CROUCH

Police are investigating a fire which destroyed a caravan and damaged two cars at Windale.

4 fire trucks from Tingira Heights and Charlestown were called to reports of explosions in James Street at about 2.45am on Wednesday to find the 15 year-old caravan up in flames.

Newcastle Fire Command says an LPG cylinder attached to the caravan exploded during the blaze.

Two cars parked nearby also suffered heat damage.

It's taken crews around an hour to extinguish and mop up the fire.
