Help Needed to Identify Trevor's "Angel of Mercy"

A cyclist who was hit by a vehicle and left by the side of the road at Tarro last year has taken to social media to find the woman who saved his life.

Exactly one year ago, on October 9th, 2018, Trevor Simmons was riding in the bike lane on the New England Highway when he was struck by a vehicle and knocked unconscious.

About an hour later, an unknown woman wearing a red top noticed Trevor lying in the drain and stopped to help, calling an ambulance and waiting with him until they arrived.

Twelve months to the day, Trevor is hoping to find his "Angel of Mercy" to say thank you.

Teen Charged Over Mayfield Hit and Run

A teenager has been charged with dangerous driving after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in Mayfield.

A 79-year-old man was walking along a nature strip on Villiers Street around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, when police say a Holden Nova allegedly being driven by a 17-year-old boy collided with the man.

It's alleged the driver left the scene without rendering assistance.

The teenager has been charged with five offences including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and will face a Children's Court today.

The elderly man remains in a serious condition at the John Hunter Hospital, his injuries are not life-threatening.

Innocent Bystander Seriously Injured In Hit And Run At Hamilton South

Police are appealing for information after a woman was seriously injured during a hit-and-run incident at Hamilton South.

Police say a white 4-wheel-drive was deliberately driven at two men on the footpath in Fowler Street at about 3.30pm on Wednesday, hitting one of them and leaving him with superficial cuts and abrasions.

However, Chief Inspector Gerard Lawson says the car also hit an innocent bystander.

"...but in the process collided with a 55-year-old woman. That woman's subsequently been taken away to John Hunter Hospital where she's receiving treatment for a serious leg fracture - treatment which will include surgery. The four-wheel-drive then left the area and police would seek assistance from anybody who might know the identity of the driver or the location of that vehicle", he said.

 

Police hunt driver who fled fatal crash

Police are currently on the hunt for a male driver who fled the scene of a crash in Wickham resulting in the death of a 36-year-old woman.

The crash occurred just after 9am this morning when a white Ute lost control on the roundabout at Branch Street.

The vehicle crashed into the victims motorised scooter before mounting the kerb and smashing into a fence.

The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition with a head injury and multiple fractures but died.

The male driver is described as wearing high visibility clothing with blood on his face, about 175-180cm tall with short brown hair.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the whereabouts of the man police are seeking should call Newcastle City Local Area Command or Crime Stoppers of 1800 333 000.

Update 3:30pm

Police have confirmed a 31-year-old man has handed himself into police.
