A man is due to face court today over an alleged kidnapping incident in Newcastle.
Around 9pm Monday night, a 48-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were at a licensed premises on Main Road, Cardiff before leaving in a vehicle and driving to multiple locations within Newcastle.
Police have heard the woman was assaulted several times during the journey before she was dropped off in the Wallsend area, where she sought help from a nearby business.
The man was arrested by police and charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage occasion actual bodily harm.
The incident was the second alleged kidnapping to occur in the Hunter on Monday, with a 28-year-old man also facing Maitland Local Court today over a separate incident.
