No Fire Stations To Close In The Hunter

Claims two Hunter fire stations could temporarily close at any time are being strongly denied by Fire Commissioner Greg Mullins.

The Fire Brigade Employees Union fears lives could be put at risk as the state government pushes ahead with budget cuts.

The Fire Commissioner has acknowledged a few Sydney stations could be taken offline at any time, but says fire stations are too thin on the ground in the Hunter for the move to be implemented here.

Almost all government agencies have been asked to reduce employee-related expenses by 1.2 per cent this year.
