Singleton Mayor Sue Moore has used her casting vote to survive a motion of no confidence.
The motion was brought following comments by the mayor in her regular column in the local paper, with councillors divided over whether she is abusing the privilege to unfairly attack her council colleagues.
Several councillors wept during last night's heated debate.
