Investigations are continuing into the cause of a shed fire at Phoenix Park near Morpeth which has left a man with serious burns.
The 38-year-old was asleep in the shed at the Wrights Road property when the fire broke out just after two o'clock this morning. He raced outside and contacted emergency services, however, believing there was a gas bottle still in the shed and fearing it could explode, he ran back inside to retrieve it.
The man suffered burns to his palms and was taken to the John Hunter Hospital before being transferred to the Burns Unit at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital for specialist treatment.
The shed was destroyed in the fire.
