Charges Likely Over Schoolgirl Death

Workcover is expected to prosecute TAFE NSW over the death of a Newcastle schoolgirl during a horse riding program.

18-year-old Sarah Waugh died from head and neck injuries when she fell from a horse which bolted at the Jillaroo program being run by Dubbo TAFE in 2009.

It was later revealed the horse involved had competed at a race meeting just 6 weeks earlier.

A Coronial Inquest in December last year was extremely critical of the Jillaroo program, finding the instructor was not sufficiently experienced to run the course.
