Beresfield Man To Face Court On Police Assault Charges And Outstanding Warrants

BY IAN CROUCH

A Beresfield man is accused of assaulting police on two occasions after speeding off from a random breath test on Monday.

An officer suffered an arm injury when he attempted to remove the keys from the ignition after noticing a knife on the front seat of the Toyota Camry.

But the driver took off and managed to evade police after a short pursuit.

Officers from the Target Action Group and detectives caught up with the 27-year-old at an address in Maitland Road, Hexham last night.

He was arrested after a short foot pursuit when it's alleged he lashed out at the officers.

He's been refused bail to appear in Maitland Local Court today charged with a raft of offenses including assaulting police and resisting arrest.

Checks revealed he is also wanted on six outstanding arrest warrants.
