Supercars Race Won't Impact Heritage Of Newcastle's East End:Report

BY IAN CROUCH

A heritage report on the Supercars race in November has painted a rosy picture despite concerns from residents.

The reports says the race will enhance the national profile and promote the heritage of Newcastle's East End.

Some residents argue the race will devalue the east end and cause permanent damage to the foundations of heritage buildings and the streetscape.

Meanwhile, organisers of the Newcastle 500 race have unveiled a map showing changes to streets in the city's east end.

Wharf Road and Parnell Place will be widened as part of the street circuit, while a new road will go through Nobbys Reserve, and paving will be laid along 100 metres of Foreshore Park to connect two existing car parks to make way for the pits.
