Gateshead Man Allegedly Caught Speeding, High Range Drink Driving and Talking On Mobile Phone

BY IAN CROUCH

A Gateshead man has had his drivers licence suspended and is facing a raft of traffic infringements after he was allegedly caught speeding while over the limit at Tighes Hill.

Officers pulled over the 27-year-old on Industrial Drive just before 5.30 yesterday afternoon after they allegedly clocked him travelling at 97 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone while talking on his mobile phone.

He was subjected to a roadside breath test and police say he returned a high range blood alcohol reading of 0.181, telling them he'd downed more than a dozen cans of beer over a 2-and-a-half hour period prior to getting behind the wheel.

It's the third time the 27-year-old has been arrested for drink driving since 2010.

He's been granted strict conditional bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on April 6.
