A resident has suffered a knife wound during a violent home invasion at Wallsend.
Police say a man in his 20's forced his way though the back door of the home on Close Street at about 8.45pm last night.
Four adults and two pre-school children were at home at the time.
A struggle ensued with the occupants before the intruder left the house.
A 27-year-old man suffered a laceration to his arm - he's undergone surgery overnight at the John Hunter Hospital.
The intruder is described as being about 185 centimetres tall with a solid build and a meduim complexion.
Police believe it wasn't a random attack but are appealing for anyone with information to contact Waratah Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
