Man Killed In Hunter Valley Quad Bike Crash

BY IAN CROUCH

A report is being prepared for the Coroner after a man was killed in a quad bike accident on a property in the Upper Hunter.

The 60-year-old left his Blandford home at about 6.00pm on Saturday to work on his property but failed to return.

The man's family called emergency services when they couldn't find him.

An extensive search by police and the Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter was launched and the man's body was found just before 8.30am on Sunday.

It comes less than a week after a 6-year-old girl was killed in a quad bike crash on a property at Piliga, west of Narrabri.

The girl was with two other children on the bike when it left a private road and crashed into two trees.

A 12-year-old girl was flown to Sydney Children's Hospital with head injuries, while a second 13-year-old girl was not injured.

More than 110 people have died in quad bike accidents across the country over the past six years.

The latest tragedies has prompted NSW Labor to call for summit to prevent quad bike accidents.

Quad bike accidents and rollovers are the leading cause of death and injuries on rural properties.
