A fire which destroyed a house at Kurri Kurri overnight is believed to have been deliberately lit.
Firefighters from Maitland, East Maitland, Minmi and Kearsley were called to the single level fibro home in Booth Street just after 4.00pm on Sunday to find the house well alight.
It took them two hours to extinguish and mop up the blaze.
Newcastle Fire Command says three people were evacuated.
Crews had difficulty accessing water and had to pump relay from a nearby street, while all firefighters had to be decontaminated due to possible exposure to asbestos.
Crews were called back around 4.00am on Monday to extinguish a re-ignition.
