Maitland Council shows solidarity with people of Lismore in trying times

By CONNOR MARSELOS

In times of crisis, it can show the finest hour of human decency and kindness. This is no different in the current flooding events plaguing the New South Wales Northern Rivers town of Lismore.

In their time of need, Maitland City Council have done their bit to help their fellow Australians. A donation of $10,000 to the Lismore City Council's Flood Appeal fund.

"It's only right when these things crop up, that Maitland puts it hand in its pocket, make sure we contribute" says Maitland Mayor Phillip Penfold.

The donation will go towards the residents of Lismore, who have been recovering from the devastating impacts that the flooding has brought over the last week.

Mayor Penfold hopes he can set the example for other councils to chip into the appeal fund, saying that every small bit donated, adds up significantly.

"On behalf of everyone at Council, we hope this donation goes some way to assisting the community of Lismore getting back on their feet", says Mayor Penfold.
