The Tighes Hill RSPCA Veterinary Hospital will close from December 1st, as part of plans to expand the organisations hospital at Rutherford.
RSPCA NSW says the closure is part of plans to centralise services in the region to one location, by adding more consultation rooms, surgical offerings and specialised services at Rutherford.
The organization says residents in Newcastle will still have the opportunity to adopt animals at Rutherford or the Tuggerah care centre, and can visit local vets for treatments.
"We have identified a need for these services to be available, and we hope that by expanding the facility and centralizing our services and staff, we can help more people help more animals," The RSPCA said in a statement on their website.

The RSPCA says the opportunity to expand the other centre was made possible by a generous bequest from dedicated supporter, the late Sheila Woodcock, who was a passionate animal lover.
They say the decision was furthermore made in consultation with the Woodcock family.
"We are in the beginning stages of this transition, and we appreciate your patience and understanding at this time."

The RSPCA says there will be no job losses as a result of the closure.
