BY IAN CROUCH

A 21-year-old woman is due to face court today accused of leading police on a high speed pursuit through the western suburbs of Newcastle.

Officers attempted to stop a grey Mazda CX-7 on Douglas Street, Wallsend in the early hours of Saturday morning, but the car took off, allegedly reaching speeds of 100 kilometres per hour through Wallsend, Birmingham Gardens, Maryland and Fletcher before heading back to Wallsend.

The car broke down on Newcastle Road and the woman ran off - she was found hiding under a house in Binney Street.

Police say she was on parole and disqualified from driving until 2043.
