Big Seas Pound Stockton Coastline

BY IAN CROUCH

Newcastle Council will continue to monitor Stockton Beach today after big seas closed access to the beach.

Waves up to 7 metres high pounded the beach yesterday prompting Hunter Water to build a sand wall to protect work under way on a temporary sea wall at the former council tip site

Wave heights up to five metres are still expected this morning but should decrease to around two to three metres by midday.

Meanwhile, Nelson Bay Road was closed at Anna Bay on Tuesday night after power lines came down.

Traffic was stopped in both directions for about an hour while the lines were removed. Ausgrid is still working to restore power to homes around Anna Bay.
