Man Taken To Hospital After Stand-Off At Gateshead

BY IAN CROUCH

A four-and-a-half hour stand-off with police at Gateshead this morning has ended peacefully.

Neighbours of a home in Oxford Street called police just before 1.00am on Sunday when a man climbed an awning and began shouting and making threats.

Police negotiators and the Rescue Squad were called in and eventually managed to remove him from the roof without incident just before 5.30am.

He's been taken to the Calvary Mater Hospital for a mental health assessment.

No-one was injured - police believe he was under the influence of ICE.
