Police say the 29-year-old victim was speaking with two men outside the shopping centre on Croudace Road at about 10.20pm on Tuesday when he was threatened fled.
The men chased him to Grandview Parade where they punched and kicked him and stole his mobile phone.
He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries.
