Total Fire Ban Declared For The Hunter

BY IAN CROUCH

Firefighters are bracing for a challenging day across the Hunter with a Total Fire Ban in force until midnight on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid 30's with northwesterly winds gusting up to 75 kilometres per hour and low humidity .

It comes as a bushfire at Richmond Vale near Kurri Kurri has been brought under control. It's believed the fire broke out as the result of a car fire on Tuesday afternoon

James Morris from the Rural Fire Service says the fire danger is severe.

"We're concerned about any new fire that pop up and any existing fires that have been burning over the past couple of weeks, so our main focus is to make sure they don't re-ignite, to make sure we don;t see any spot fires occurring from these significant winds that we'll be seeing throughout the area today," he said.
