BY IAN CROUCH

An FA-18 Hornet from the Willliamtown RAAF Base will stage a spectacular low fly-over of Newcastle's Memorial Park on Friday morning.

The jet will roar over the city just 300 metres above the ground as part of a service at the Cenotaph in Civic Park to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Pilot Officer, John Crossman from Newcastle was one of 14 Australians killed in action during the conflict on 30th September 1940.

The former Newcastle Boys High School student was just 22 years old.
